Aromas of blueberry compote, black plums, and fresh violet petals integrate with notes of blackberry bramble and a hint of black pepper. The palate is medium to full-bodied and exceptionally velvety, featuring a concentrated core of dark fruit and a subtle, Bordeaux-like earthiness. It displays a rounded mouthfeel with persistent tannins and a bright acidity that leads to a clean finish marked by hints of pie spice and cocoa.
Winemaker Samantha Sheehan utilizes a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. In the cellar, the fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts at temperatures around 85°F to ensure a pure expression of the fruit. Following fermentation, the wine remains on the skins for an additional 10 days to build structural depth before being moved to neutral French oak barrels. The wine matures for 10 to 16 months in mostly neutral oak (with about 10% new wood), a process that allows the tannins to soften while maintaining the wine's vibrant, sun-ripened character.
The fruit is sourced from high-elevation vineyards across Sonoma County, specifically targeting sites with well-drained soils and significant maritime influence. These vineyards are defined by their position near the cooling breezes of the Pacific Ocean and the Petaluma Gap, which allow the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining high natural acidity. The 2024 vintage in Sonoma was marked by a steady growing season with moderate temperatures, resulting in a Cabernet Sauvignon that emphasizes aromatic lift and elegant fruit concentration rather than heavy extraction.
