Grapes
A field blend of heritage red varieties, often referred to as "Criollas Tintas," from the Paraje Hilario vineyard. The blend typically includes Criolla Chica, Criolla Grande, Cereza, Canela, and Moscatel Tinto. The vines are over 80 years old.
Farming
Sourced from the Calingasta Valley in the San Juan region of Argentina. The vineyard is situated at a high elevation of approximately 1,500 meters (4,921 feet). The producers, Francisco Bugallo and Nuria Añó Gargiulo, employ traditional organic and biodynamic viticulture on quartz-rich, colluvium soils.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented whole-cluster in concrete vessels without temperature control, in an infusion style (gentle maceration on skins). After fermentation, the wine is gently pressed and rests for seven months in concrete before being bottled. It is made with native yeasts and minimal intervention.
Tasting Notes
A savory, juicy, and fresh light-bodied red wine. The profile is characterized by bright, sour notes of cherry with the stem, cranberry, and red currant, mingling with spicy undertones of licorice, black pepper, and subtle tobacco. The texture is crunchy and vibrant, offering a light body with pronounced acidity.
