Vibrant aromas of blueberry, blackberry, and lavender integrate with notes of leather, clove, and fresh mint. The palate is fleshy and concentrated, featuring a velvety texture and savory hints of black olive and crushed rock that carry through a lifted finish.
The Stolpman family utilizes CCOF certified organic and biodynamic farming practices for their own-rooted vines, which are dry-farmed in high-density plantings. In the cellar, winemaker Kyle Knapp employs native yeast fermentation in open-top concrete tanks with 50% whole clusters to provide structural energy. The wine matures for eleven months in neutral 500-liter French oak puncheons to preserve its primary fruit and mineral character.
This flagship Syrah is sourced from several estate blocks within the Ballard Canyon AVA in Santa Barbara County. The vineyard is situated on a rare limestone outcropping where the vines are exposed to intense afternoon heat and cooling Pacific fog. These conditions, combined with the well-drained calcareous soils, result in small, concentrated berries with balanced acidity.
