Aromas of wild blackberry, dark cherry, dried sage, and damp earth lead into a medium-to-full-bodied palate. Flavors of black plum, pomegranate, and clove join firm, focused tannins and crisp acidity through a long, savory finish.
Hand-harvested fruit undergoes a five-day cold soak prior to fermentation in open-top tanks with indigenous yeasts. The wine ages for 15 months in French oak barrels (approximately 40 percent new) without racking, building texture while preserving purity. The winery bottles the wine unfined and unfiltered.
Grapes come from coastal estate vineyard sites located four miles from the Pacific Ocean in the Sonoma Coast. Rooted in well-draining Goldridge sandy loam and coastal ridge soils, the vines face dense maritime fog and cold ocean winds, driving slow ripening, small berry size, and high natural acidity.
