Aromas of violet, blueberry, black cherry, and pine needle open to a palate that is dense and concentrated yet driven by a lively, cooling acidity that gives the wine remarkable elegance and lift. The fruit is deep and layered, with a minty freshness and a savory mineral note that weaves through to a long, perfumed finish. This is a wine of striking contrasts, power and precision in equal measure.
Grapes from the estate's small-clustered, thick-skinned vines were harvested in early October and fully destemmed before an extended 18 to 21 day maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation proceeded slowly and without intervention, and the wine was aged for 11 months in 33% new French oak with no added sulfur until racking.
The MacIntyre Estate sits on a steep, east-facing hillside near Graton on the Sonoma Coast, planted in 2016 to high-density Calera clone vines in deep, sandy soils that naturally limit vigor and concentrate the fruit into unusually small, intensely flavored clusters. The site is defined by its proximity to the Pacific fog, which arrives here first each evening and lingers longest each morning, preserving the cool-climate acidity and aromatic precision that set this vineyard apart from its neighbors.
