Aromas of wild red berry jam, yellow peach, high-toned baking spices, and blood orange lead into an expansive, full-bodied palate. Flavors of fresh red raspberry, ripe cherry, and cocoa mesh with underlying notes of crushed chalk, underbrush, and woodsmoke. The texture is plush and concentrated, supported by fine-grained, broad-shouldered tannins and vibrant, mouthwatering natural acidity through a long, juicy finish.
Crafted entirely from 100% Zinfandel harvested from certified organic old vines. The hand-picked fruit undergoes fermentation using only native yeasts. The wine ages for 15 months in barrels (80% French oak and 20% American oak, with 20% new wood overall) before being bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its signature chalk-driven minerality and purity of fruit.
Grapes are grown at the historic Pesenti Vineyard, planted between 1922 and 1924 in the Willow Creek District sub-AVA of Paso Robles. The head-trained, dry-farmed site is defined by its steep hillsides and rare, blindingly white, mineral-rich limestone soils (calcareous shale). The marine influence from the nearby Pacific Ocean creates significant diurnal temperature drops, keeping the wine energetic and fresh despite the warm daytime climate.
