Aromas of lifted red cherry, pomegranate, Earl Grey tea, white pepper, and mint lead into a vibrant, mid-weight palate. Flavors of fresh raspberry, wild plum, gingerbread spice, and subtle cocoa mesh with a dusty mineral undertone. The texture is silky and fluid, supported by fine, clay-like tannins and lively, transparent acidity through a clean, perfumed finish.
Crafted entirely from Zinfandel harvested from head-trained, own-rooted old vines planted in 1980. The hand-picked fruit undergoes fermentation using only native yeasts. The wine ages for 15 months in barrels (80 percent French oak and 20 percent American oak, with 20 percent new wood overall) to frame the bright fruit without overpowering it before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Grapes are grown at the Del Barba Vineyard in Oakley, located within Contra Costa County. Planted in deep, well-draining Delhi blow sands at low elevation, the vines sit near the cooling currents of the San Joaquin and Sacramento River Delta. The combination of warm days, high Delta winds, and reflective sandy soils yields an aromatic, Burgundian-style Zinfandel marked by freshness and energetic lift.
