Aromas of jammy blackberry, roasted anise, incense, and graphite lead into a full-bodied, imposing palate. Flavors of dark plum, wild raspberry, licorice, and cracked black pepper mesh with a loamy, botanical undertone. The texture is dense and chewy, supported by broad, mountain-driven tannins and lively natural acidity through a long, structured finish.
A certified organic blend dominated by Zinfandel. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using only indigenous yeasts. The wine ages for 15 months in barrel (80 percent French oak and 20 percent American oak, with roughly 20 percent new wood overall) before being bottled unfined and unfiltered to retain its raw power and textural depth.
Grapes are sourced from two high-elevation estate sites atop Howell Mountain in Napa Valley: Dragon Vineyard and Rattlesnake Ridge. Perched between 2,250 and 2,600 feet above sea level, these vineyards feature iron-rich, rocky volcanic soils. The vines sit above the fog line, receiving intense, direct sunlight tempered by cool mountain air, which yields concentrated fruit with firm tannic structure.
