Aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, star anise, kirsch, and damp forest floor lead into a plush, full-bodied palate. Flavors of ripe black cherry, fig, pomegranate, melted licorice, and sweet baking spice mesh with subtle notes of pine and sassafras. The texture is broad and layered, supported by ripe tannins and bright acidity through a long, spice-tinged finish.
Hand-harvested from specific vineyard blocks, with meticulous sorting at the winery. The fruit undergoes open-top fermentation using neutral and selected yeasts to highlight site expression. The wine ages for ten months in French oak barrels, with 50 percent new oak utilized to frame the fruit structure before bottling.
Grapes are grown at the Bondi Home Ranch in Sebastopol, situated within the Green Valley of Russian River Valley sub-appellation. Planted on eastern-facing slopes with classic Goldridge sandy loam and clay soils, the site is Martinelli's coolest vineyard location. Late afternoon maritime fog skims across the vineyard, delaying harvest and allowing extended hang time for full flavor development while retaining natural acidity.
