Aromas of dark Bing cherry, black olive, dried lavender, and white pepper lead into a dense, plush palate. Flavors of dark plum, roasted game, cocoa powder, and kelp mesh with a subtle iron-like mineral drive. The texture is smooth and velvety, supported by polished, fine-grained tannins and bright natural acidity through a long, savory finish.
Made from 100% Syrah. Hand-harvested with 14% whole cluster inclusion, the grapes undergo fermentation in concrete tanks and new French oak puncheons. The wine ages for 18 months in mid-sized French oak barrels (30% new), balancing fruit concentration and tannic structure without overwhelming the site's natural lift.
Grapes are grown exclusively in the high-elevation York Mountain Vineyard west of Paso Robles. Situated on the damp, cool eastern slopes of the Santa Lucia Range just miles from the Pacific Ocean, the site features heavy rain fall and deep sand sandstone-derived soils that yield extended ripening cycles, low pH, and high natural acidity.
