Grapes
100% Malbec. The wine is a project by winemakers Edgardo 'Edy' del Popolo and David Bonomi, focusing on expressing the pure, high-altitude mountain terroir of Gualtallary.
Farming
The grapes are sourced from a section of the PerSe Monasterio vineyard, known as Viña Unica del Monasterio, located in the Gualtallary appellation of the Uco Valley. The vineyard sits at approximately 1,450 to 1,500 meters (4,750–4,921 feet) above sea level on soils dominated by calcareous gravel, sand, and white chalk. Farming is practiced with a sustainable/organic philosophy.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested and entirely destemmed. Fermentation takes place in proprietary concrete vats (3,000L) using native yeasts at low temperatures, followed by an extended maceration period of about 30 days with submerged caps. The wine is aged for 12 months in the same concrete vats and is bottled without fining or filtration, highlighting purity and avoiding new oak influence.
Tasting Notes
This Malbec is noted for its delicate and raw expression of high-altitude fruit. The nose is highly floral, with pronounced notes of crushed violets, lavender, and sweet spices, underlying red and black fruit like plums and cherries. The palate is juicy and taut, showcasing elegance over power, with a long, refined finish framed by chalky, mineral tannins and a refreshing clarity.
