Aromas of cassis, blueberry, graphite, fresh rose petal, and tobacco leaf lead into a medium-to-full-bodied palate. Flavors of dark plum, cocoa nib, black truffle, and crushed stone mesh with subtle notes of cedar and dried herbs. The texture is velvety and seamless, supported by fine, polished tannins and driving freshness through a long, savory, mineral-driven finish.
Hand-harvested fruit undergoes rigorous cluster and optical berry sorting. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats with gentle pump-overs. The wine ages for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels (20 percent new), undergoing periodic barrel-to-barrel rackings before bottling.
Grapes are sourced entirely from the historic, dry-farmed Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, situated along the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. Rooted in gravelly, volcanic loam soils, the vines benefit from warm daytime temperatures tempered by cool breezes and morning fog off the San Pablo Bay, yielding fruit with deep phenolic concentration and bright natural acidity.
