2021 Mail Road Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay

Grapes

This wine is 100% Chardonnay. It is a blend composed of 80% fruit from the Mt. Carmel Vineyard and 20% fruit from the Donnachadh Vineyard. The Mt. Carmel portion consists of the Old Wente Clone.

Farming

The vineyards are located in the Sta. Rita Hills American Viticultural Area. The Mt. Carmel Vineyard is farmed organically and features Botella clay loam soils. The Donnachadh Vineyard is also farmed using organic practices.

Winemaking

Winemaker Matt Dees oversaw the production. The wine underwent 40% malolactic fermentation. It was aged for 12 months in neutral French oak barrels. The alcohol content is 12%. Total production for this bottling was 112 cases.

Tasting Notes

The wine is rich and vibrant with a saline character. Aromas include citrus oil, lime zest, and chamomile. The palate features flavors of honeyed stone fruits and toasted spice with a structured finish.
