Aromas of fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, and violet petals integrate with savory notes of dried herbs, black pepper, and a hint of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied and exceptionally vibrant, featuring a crunchy red fruit core and a distinct mineral tension. It displays a balanced structure with fine, chalky tannins and a racy acidity that leads to a clean, persistent finish marked by a subtle earthy depth and a touch of pomegranate.
Winemakers Hector and Pablo Durigutti utilize a traditional field blend of Malbec, Charbono (Bonarda), and Syrah. In the cellar, the fruit is fermented using only native yeasts in concrete vats to maintain the raw energy of the site. The wine undergoes a gentle maceration to extract color and flavor without over-extracting harsh tannins. It matures for several months in concrete and neutral oak barrels, a process that allows the wine to breathe and settle while preserving the high-toned aromatics and primary fruit profile. This low-intervention approach results in a wine bottled with minimal sulfur and without fining or filtration.
The fruit is grown in the Las Compuertas district of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. The site is defined by its high elevation of 3,500 feet and its historic, deep-rooted vines, some of which were planted in 1914. The soils are a complex mix of alluvial stones, clay, and silt, which provide the ideal drainage for these traditional varieties. This specific "Tinto del Pueblo" (Village Red) concept is designed to honor the heritage of the Las Compuertas community, reflecting the cooler, more elegant side of Mendoza where the high altitude and old-vine concentration create a wine of great freshness and terroir-driven character.
