Aromas of ripe damson plum and blackberry layer with notes of black chocolate and espresso. The full-bodied palate features dense dark fruit and earthy minerality that lead into a long, cacao-dusted finish.
Dry-farmed old vines are harvested by hand followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine matures for fifteen months in French oak barriques to refine the intense tannins.
Winemaker Dave Phinney established Department 66 in the village of Maury within the Roussillon region. Vineyards are situated in the Pyrenees foothills, where vines grow in rugged soils of black schist, granite, and limestone.
