Aromas of dark cassis, black cherry, dried violet, graphite, and subtle baking spice lead into a rich, full-bodied palate. Flavors of ripe blackberry, cocoa nib, tobacco leaf, and cedar mesh with an earthy, crushed-rock minerality. The texture is seamless and plush, supported by velvety, fine-grained tannins and bright, balancing natural acidity through a long, polished, savory finish.
Grapes are hand-harvested from low-yielding vineyard blocks, meticulously sorted, and gently fermented in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using daily punch-downs. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation and extended aging for approximately 20 months in French oak barrels (50 to 60 percent new) to build structure, integration, and complexity before un-filtered bottling.
Grapes are sourced from premier hillside and benchland vineyard sites across Napa Valley, including notable holdings in Coombsville, Carneros, and St. Helena. The soils range from volcanic cobblestone to deep gravelly loam. The blend benefits from the cooling maritime influences of the San Pablo Bay, allowing for long hang-times that develop deep phenolic ripeness while retaining vibrant natural acidity.
