Deep aromas of ripe plum, baked cherry, new leather, and tobacco leaf lead into a massive, full-bodied palate. Rich flavors of black raspberry jam and licorice mesh with notes of salted mocha and dried Mediterranean herbs. The texture is velvety and exceptionally concentrated, balanced by a powerful, powdery tannic structure and a remarkably long, savory finish.
Hand-harvested Sangiovese undergoes fermentation in stainless steel and glass-lined concrete vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels ranging from 7 to 62 hectoliters, followed by an additional 12 months of cellaring in the bottle before release. This extended maturation is done without any added sugar or modifications to let the purity of the single vineyard show through.
Grapes are sourced entirely from the estate’s historic 11.7-hectare Pianrosso vineyard, located on the steep, south-facing slopes of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The old vines grow in a well-draining soil mix of ancient marl and iron-rich clay. This sun-drenched microclimate, paired with cool evening breezes from the nearby Orcia River, allows the fruit to achieve optimum ripeness and immense structural depth.
