Aromas of orange blossom, yellow peach, and Meyer lemon integrate with distinct notes of honey and crushed volcanic rock. The palate is medium-bodied and surprisingly crisp, featuring a waxy texture and a persistent mineral finish that balances the ripe, tropical fruit flavors of lychee and pineapple.
Winemaker Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti utilizes organic farming for this unique blend of Aglianico (vinified as a white wine), Moscato, Chardonnay, and Fiano. In the cellar, the grapes undergo a short cold maceration to extract aromatics before a gentle pressing. The wine is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to maintain the freshness and "preliminary" vibrant character that gives the cuvée its name.
The fruit is grown in the Vulture region of Basilicata, situated on the slopes of an extinct volcano. The vineyards are defined by their "Tufo" soils—volcanic ash and lapilli that are rich in minerals. At elevations reaching 500 meters, the vines benefit from cool nights that preserve acidity, while the dark, volcanic earth provides the grapes with the intense savory tension and structure typical of this rugged landscape.
