Aromas of macerated cherry, black plum, and dried herbs integrate with subtle notes of cocoa and balsamic. The palate is full-bodied and velvet-like, featuring a dense core of dark fruit balanced by a surprisingly fresh acidity and soft, well-rounded tannins that lead to a long, spicy finish.
Rosa Padula and Fabio Zeni utilize certified organic farming for their Primitivo vines. In the cellar, the grapes undergo a long maceration on the skins to extract deep color and flavor. The wine matures for twelve months in a combination of stainless steel and large Slavonian oak casks, followed by an additional period of bottle aging to ensure the structural elements are fully integrated before the wine is released.
The fruit is grown on a historic estate located within the Parco delle Chiese Rupestri, just outside the city of Matera in Basilicata. The vineyards are situated on a plateau of calcarenite rock, a soft limestone typical of the region. This specific geology, combined with the dry, Mediterranean climate and constant ventilation, provides the wine with its characteristic mineral tension and prevents the Primitivo grapes from becoming overly jammy.
