Aromas of wild blackberry, violet, and pomegranate integrate with distinct notes of volcanic ash and graphite. The palate is light to medium-bodied and vibrant, featuring a crunchy red fruit profile, supple tannins, and a persistent salty finish that reflects its volcanic origin.
Dionigi Caffarelli and Flora Faliti utilize certified organic farming for their heritage vines. In the cellar, the Piedirosso grapes undergo a long, slow fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks to preserve the grape's delicate floral aromatics. The wine matures for 18 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak barrels and an additional year in the bottle before release, ensuring the structural elements are fully integrated without being masked by new wood.
The fruit is grown on a single two-hectare vineyard in the Sannio Beneventano region of Campania. This site is defined by its soil of clay and volcanic basalt over limestone bedrock. At 250 meters of elevation, the vines benefit from significant diurnal temperature shifts, which allow the Piedirosso to maintain its high natural acidity and develop the characteristic smoky, mineral tension of the "Kerres" cuvée.
