Aromas of dried red cherry, wild raspberry, and pomegranate integrate with classic notes of rose petal, leather, and a hint of anise. The palate is medium-bodied and exceptionally savory, featuring a core of forest fruit and a rustic, earthy undertone. It displays a firm structural tension with assertive, chalky tannins and a high-toned acidity that leads to a long finish marked by dried herbs and a touch of orange peel.
The winemaking team at Alasia utilizes 100% Nebbiolo grapes carefully selected for this bottling. In the cellar, the fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks with a prolonged maceration on the skins to extract the variety's signature tannins and aromatic precursors. The wine matures for a minimum of two years, with at least nine months spent in large Slavonian oak casks known as botti. This traditional aging process allows the aggressive youthful tannins to soften and integrate with the fruit without the heavy influence of new wood, preserving the delicate floral character of the Nebbiolo.
The fruit is grown in the Barbaresco region of Piedmont in Northwest Italy. The site is defined by its "marne di Sant'Agata" soils, a mix of calcareous clay and silt that provides the ideal environment for Nebbiolo to develop its complex aromatics and firm structure. The 2015 vintage in Barbaresco was characterized by a warm and steady growing season, which resulted in wines with excellent phenolic ripeness and a more approachable fruit profile compared to cooler years. The vineyards benefit from the moderating influence of the Tanaro River, which helps maintain the freshness and linear precision that define the region's wines.
