Grapes
A traditional blend for sparkling wine: 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. This sparkling wine is from the Willamette Valley in Oregon, USA.
Farming
Grapes are selected from Argyle's vineyards in the Willamette Valley. The base wines are managed to ensure high acidity, which is necessary for extended aging. The quality is a result of Argyle’s dedication to their vintage sparkling program, which often involves very long aging.
Winemaking
The base wines were fermented and aged in a combination of 75% stainless steel tank and 25% neutral oak barrel for six months before secondary fermentation. The wine was then aged en tirage (on the yeast lees) for a remarkable 10 years before being disgorged (in this case, in July 2023). Dosage is low, around 3 grams per liter (Extra Brut territory), allowing the autolytic complexity to shine.
Tasting Notes
Boasts significant depth and richness due to its extended aging. Aromas include bruised apples, buttery biscuits, cake crust, and toasted cashew, along with savory notes of mushroom tart and autumn leaves. The palate is concentrated, soft, and creamy, yet maintained by vibrant acidity. Flavors include baked pear, Meyer lemon, and honeyed almond, leading to a long, rich, and spice-accented finish.
