September is harvest season, when the work in the vineyard reaches its most important moment of the year. At Murphy's, it's also a chance to think about the people behind that work. Many winemakers would consider themselves farmers first, with winemaking as an extension of their relationship with the land.

For the fourth installment of Farmers First, we're traveling to Spain and Portugal, two countries with some of the oldest continuously farmed vineyards in Europe. Many producers here work with old bush vines and native grapes rarely seen outside the region, and that long relationship with the land shapes everything about how the wines are farmed and made.

This walk-around tasting features five wines from Spain and Portugal, highlighting producers whose work reflects both deep tradition and a modern, organic approach to farming.
