September is harvest season, when the work in the vineyard reaches its most important moment of the year. At Murphy's, it's also a chance to think about the people behind that work. Many winemakers would consider themselves farmers first, with winemaking as an extension of their relationship with the land.

For the second installment of Farmers First, we're looking closer to home at a group of American producers who approach wine with the vineyard firmly at the center. From cool-climate sites to warm, historic vineyards, the wines demonstrate just how broad the American wine landscape has become. Different places and different philosophies come together around a shared commitment to organic farming and thoughtful, hands-on winemaking.

The lineup spans a range of styles, from vibrant whites to expressive reds, including wines made with traditional and more experimental techniques. Together, they offer a snapshot of an American wine culture that is increasingly confident in forging its own path.
