    2017 Xavier Gérard Côte-Rôtie

    Tasting Notes ~ Xavier Gérard is a young guy farming about three hectares of Côte-Rôtie vines by hand (as if there were any other way) and vinifying wines in the most traditional manner possible. In his small cellar, fermentations are initiated by ambient yeasts and varying percentages of whole grape clusters are left in the must. The Côte-Rôtie is aged in large, used demi-muid barrels before bottling. This is a soulful, high-toned Syrah that perfectly captures what Côte-Rôtie is all about. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep purple-red core and expresses a breathtaking mosaic of elite Northern Rhône aromatics: grilled meat, sun-roasted brambleberries, tar, olive tapenade, freshly cracked pepper, ripe black cherries, Chambord, dried violets, and crushed hot stone.

  • 2020 Storm Point Red Blend

    Tasting Notes ~ Aromas of pomegranate, cranberry, orange peel and chai tea with a hint of wet gravel. The palate is fresh and uplifting with notes of briary raspberry, morello cherry and wild lavender finished with an orange twist. This is an ethereal, vivid red blend! Sustainably farmed - 56 percent Cinsault, 29 percent Syrah, and 15 percent Carignan that spent 10 months in 75 percent French barrique and 25 percent stainless steel. Only 1,700 cases produced.

  • 2017 Denner Vineyards ‘Ditch Digger’

    Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 94 ~ The 2017 Ditch Digger is made up of 55 percent Grenache, 20 percent Mourvèdre, 13 percent Syrah, 5 percent Cinsault, 5 percent Graciano and 2 percent Carignan. Medium ruby, it has bright, inviting scents of raspberries and red cherries layered with scents of powdered sugar, citrus peel, violet and lilac perfume with an earthy undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate is ultra layered and perfumed, with a pleasantly chalky frame and fantastic juiciness, finishing very long and fragrant. Lovely!

    James Suckling 93 ~ Strikingly fresh mountain herbs and blueberries, as well as a cedary and dark-stony edge with earthy nuances, too. The palate has a gently grainy feel with sleek, vibrant berry aromas and delivers a striking mix of berries and chocolate at the long, detailed finish. A blend of 90% syrah and 10% petite sirah. Drink or hold.

    2014 Bien Nacido Estate Syrah

    Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 94 ~ The 2014 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard was showing very well, offering up an expressive bouquet of violets, cracked pepper, dried flowers and crushed cassis. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, bright and intense, with chalky structuring tannins, lovely tangy acidity and a long, perfumed finish. Like its 2015 counterpart, this nods to the Northern Rhône in style, but it's a bit more open for inspection.

    Vinous 92 ~ Deep lurid ruby. Smoke-accented blackberry, cherry compote and violet qualities, along with a spicy nuance that builds in the glass. Shows very good depth as well as energy in the mouth, offering sweet blueberry, cherry and candied violet flavors that spread out slowly on the back half. Closes smooth and long, with repeating spice and floral qualities and gentle tannic grip. Made from de-stemmed fruit.

    Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 95 ~ The 2015 Syrah Haley Rockpile Vineyard is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with compelling scents of violets, wilted roses, kirsch and baking spices over a core of wild blueberries and black cherries with wafts of lavender, garrigue and wild thyme. Full-bodied, opulent and possessing a myriad of floral and spicy sparks in the black-fruited mouth, it has a beautiful plush texture and wonderful freshness, finishing very long.
