2016 Quinta do Portal ‘Colheita’ Tinto
$23.00Tasting Notes ~ Marked by Tinta Roriz that is responsible for the intense aroma of young fresh fruit like cherry and blackberry. Dark in colour, it also shows some spicy notes along with some wood. Well structured in the mouth it has excellent acidity and firm tannins. The final is long, seductive and complex. It's a wine that we can enjoy from now but it will also age a few years very well. -
2016 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port
$92.00Wine Spectator 97 ~ A serious Port in the making, loaded for bear with dark currant paste, warmed fig sauce and blackberry reduction flavors pouring through. The brambly grip is deeply embedded and there are gorgeous ganache and licorice snap notes hanging on the finish. Best from 2035 through 2055 -
2016 Quinta de Chocapalha Arinto
$11.00Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 91 ~ The 2016 Arinto, sourced from 30-year-old vines, is the latest in a brand that is one of my favorite overachievers from Chocapalha. It comes in at 12.5 percent alcohol. This is another fine one. It has excellent acidity but a bit more depth than the 2015, if not quite its laser burst of acidity. All unoaked, it is pure and fresh, with the ability to age. (Tasting the 2008 next to it proved that, by the way.) The acidity of this grape is always a preservative and it ages well in many regions. If you like them lighter in style and crispy, this is a great warm-weather choice at a bargain price.
