    WS 96WA 98JS 95WE 93VN 96
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 98: Drawing its fruit from Castiglione Falletto, the Paolo Scavino 2016 Barolo Bric dël Fiasc shows dimension, depth, precision and power. The wine opens to a dark garnet color with a saturated hue, leading to a full, all-encompassing bouquet. The Barolo Bric dël Fiasc is often the most representative wine in the Scavino portfolio, and never has this been more true than in this classic vintage. Dark fruit, licorice, spice and ferrous earth build a fluid and multifaceted bouquet. The mouthfeel sits firm and tight on the palate today, promising to evolve and soften tomorrow. This is a bottle for your cellar.

Decanter 96: A fist of late summer cherries, raspberry and bilberry fruits set out their stall, all with the juicy character that confirms, even in a hot vintage like 2017, Opus can deliver balance and sculpted elegance. Beautiful grip, creamy texture with a strikingly powerful tannic frame. As the wine stays in the glass the floral aromatics begin to bloom up. A brilliant Opus. 20 days maceration - around half what it would have been a decade ago. 54 percent native yeast, as part of their native yeast project. 5 percent Merlot and 1 percent Malbec complete the blend. Harvest spread out over September 5 to October 8, just before the fires, by which time they had less than 10 percent of the fruit still out on the vines. 3.7pH.

    2015 Altesino Brunello (375ml Half-Bottle)

    WS 91WA 95JS 95WE 93
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 95: The Altesino 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows beautiful depth and latitude, with broad fruit aromas of dark cherry and cassis that recall the warmth and golden sunlight of the vintage. The wine is deceivingly streamlined in terms of mouthfeel, but that slim and buttoned-down backbone supports a broad range of flavors and sensations, from lavender essence and camphor ash to moist soil and toasted spice. All of these elements are delivered with impressive harmony and unity, and I expect that this wine will continue on a slow, steady and satisfying aging trajectory over the next 10 years or more. Fruit is sourced from across 21 hectares of vines with tufaceous limestone soils and Alberese rock, which contributes to the freshness and balanced structure of the wine.

2017 Pulido-Walker ‘Melanson Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon

    $285.00
    JD 97
Jeb Dunnick 97: I suspect the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon might be a candidate for the wine of the vintage with 4-5 years of bottle age. From a vineyard on Pritchard Hill, just across from Colgin, and 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, this inky colored beauty offers loads of blueberry and blackcurrant liqueur-like fruits as well as lots of spice, flowery incense, and subtle herbal undertones. Textbook Cabernet on the nose, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and a great, great finish. It's one of the few wines in the vintage that comes close to rivaling its 2015 and 2016 counterparts. The cellar will be your friend on this one, though, and a good 4-6 years of bottle age are warranted.

2016 E. Pira & Figli Chiara Boschis ‘Mosconi’ Barolo

    $157.00
    WA 96VN 96
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 96: The E Pira-Chiara Boschis 2016 Barolo Mosconi is a little wider and richer compared to the Cannubi, with bigger fruit, more sweetness, spice, grilled oregano and a touch of crushed hazelnut. Despite the wide net of aromas offered on the bouquet, this wine shows a very sharp and focused approach with elegantly linear tannins and matching acidity. There is a lifted quality to both the nose and the mouthfeel that gives this wine beautiful momentum and length. Mosconi is one of the headline vineyards of Monforte d'Alba. This is a gorgeous set of new releases from one of the nicest and most determined women in Barolo, Chiara Boschis. I may have missed it last year, but I am happy to see that her name is now featured prominently on the front label. Like the woman who created them, these wines are full of energy, elegance and voice.

    2012 Château Léoville Poyferré Saint-Julien

    $124.00
    WS 91WA 92JS 93JD 94WE 96
Jeb Dunnick 94: One of the more stacked, ripe and rockingly textured wines from the left bank, the 2012 Léoville Poyferré sports a deep ruby/purple color to go with terrific notes of crème de cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings and violets. Rich, full-bodied, supple and forward, with low acidity and ripe tannin, give bottles 4-5 years (although it dishes out ample pleasure even today) and enjoy through 2037.
Wine Enthusiast 96: This very ripe, full-bodied wine is powered by sweet blackberries and solid tannins. It is a full, concentrated and complex wine that has a great future.

  • 2018 G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo

    $26.00
    VN 90
Vinous 90: The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo emerges from a parcel in Sinio. Dark fruit, spice, earthy notes and a good bit of tannin give the Vajra's Langhe Nebbiolo a decidedly brooding, powerful feel and quite a bit more seriousness than is typical at this level. Sweet red berry fruit, mint and spice add freshness alongside bright acidity as the 2018 opens up in the glass. This is such a pretty and expressive wine.

  • 2018 Occidental ‘Freestone-Occidental’ Pinot Noir

    $77.00
    WA 95VN 94
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 95: The 2018 Pinot Noir Freestone-Occidental comes mostly from younger vines at the Occidental property but is made with the same attention to detail as the other wines in the portfolio, using free-run juice. Its nose is an aromatic well, offering crushed blueberries, charcuterie, Earl Grey tea leaves, graphite, saline, bitter orange peel and potpourri aromas. In the mouth, it explodes with lush fruits that give way after their initial rush to bitter, citrusy, minerally accents. It has a fine grain, seamless freshness and long, layered finish. It's enjoyable now but will age well over the next five to eight-plus years.
Vinous 94: The 2018 Pinot Noir Freestone Occidental is a truly remarkable wine. Maybe that is the vintage, or the added complexity the vines are acquiring with time, but the 2018 Freestone Occidental makes me incredibly curious to taste the rest of the 2018s. Bright, focused and beautifully sculpted, the 2018 is a wine of total elegance and finesse. Moreover, it captures the savory, energetic, saline style that is so typical of this part of the Sonoma Coast.

  • 2017 Melville ‘Estate’ Syrah

    $47.00
    WA 92JD 90WE 94
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92: Medium ruby colored, the 2017 Syrah Estate has a nose of spiced blueberries, blackberries, tricolored peppercorn, burnt sage, garrigue and olive with smoked meats and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it offers restrained fruit in the mouth with tons of spicy accents, firm, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing lifted.
Wine Enthusiast 94: Vivid aromas of cracked peppercorn, dewy pepper trees, spicy bay leaf and damp herbs show on the nose of this estate Syrah—a great way to experience the cool-climate expression. Underripe black-raspberry and juniper-berry flavors show on the sip as well as coriander, peppercorn and freshly washed ashtray.

  • 2017 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas

    $53.00
    JD 93WE 92VN 92
Jeb Dunnick 93: The 2017 Cornas comes from more sandy soils and was brought up in 3- to 5-year-old demi-muids. It's an elegant, complex Cornas with lots of ripe red and black fruits and plenty of loamy earth, truffle, and spice incense aromas. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, balanced, incredibly classy, elegant Cornas that has terrific tannins, loads of upfront charm, and a great finish.
Wine Enthusiast 92: Whiffs of horse saddle, smoke and anise lend complexity to rich but restrained black plum and cherry on the nose of this wine. The palate is surprisingly riper, ruddy and voluptuous in texture, but balanced by firm, penetrating tannins. Moderately full bodied and solidly framed, it should drink well through 2030.
Vinous 92: Deep lurid ruby. Smoke-accented blackberry, cherry compote and violet qualities, along with a spicy nuance that builds in the glass. Shows very good depth as well as energy in the mouth, offering sweet blueberry, cherry and candied violet flavors that spread out slowly on the back half. Closes smooth and long, with repeating spice and floral qualities and gentle tannic grip. Made from de-stemmed fruit.

2017 Occidental ‘Occidental Station Vineyard’ Pinot Noir

    $105.00
    WA 95JD 96
Jeb Dunnick 96: Coming from a more inland vineyard that’s one of the first to be harvested, the 2017 Pinot Noir Occidental Station Vineyard sports a deeper ruby/purple color as well as a tighter yet intense style carrying lots of almost blue fruits, violets, peppery spice, and spring flowers. Despite showing ample power and richness, it has a vivid spine of acidity, ripe, present tannins, and a great finish, all pointing to a solid decade or more of prime drinking. I think it will show every more complexity with a year or two of bottle age.

Tasting Notes The nose here features hints of floral notes that give way to bursting red fruits and Asian spices. 2015 Camigliano Brunello di Montalcino

    $54.00
    WS 93WA 94JS 94
Wine Spectator 93: A focused, lively red, this exhibits cherry, strawberry, earth, mineral and Mediterranean herb flavors. Dense, staying fresh as this unwinds on the lingering aftertaste.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 94: The Camigliano 2015 Brunello di Montalcino sees fruit from a 50-hectare vineyard planted 300 to 350 meters above sea level. The soils show lots of variation with clay, sand, rock and marine fossils. The wine's bouquet reveals classic Brunello characteristics of wild berry, forest floor, pressed rose petal, crushed stone and spice. You also get those typical balsam and herbal tones that are so specific to Montalcino. In fact, I argue that they come across with even more intensity in a beautifully balanced and sunny vintage such as 2015. This wine ages in 60-hectoliter botti for 24 months, making for a firm yet surprisingly streamlined mouthfeel. With 160,000 bottles made, the wine was released in January 2020.
James Suckling 94: A bright and elegant Brunello that suggests sliced oranges, tulips and rose petals. Medium-to full-bodied and finely structured, drawing on silky layers of tannins and a vibrant edge of acidity.

2015 Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino

    $71.00
    WS 94WA 95JS 98WE 97
Wine Spectator 94: Distinctly salty, this red features cherry, strawberry, juniper, thyme and tobacco flavors. Tightly wound and energetic, with fine balance and a lingering, resonant aftertaste. Complex and built to age.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 95: The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona estate enjoys a beautiful and huge expanse of vineyards at the back of the Castelnuovo dell'Abate village, where the downward slope of the hamlet meets the Orcia River, which delineates the appellation border. The estate's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino offers lovely harmony and elegance. The wine's taste profile follows the soft contours and beautiful horizons that characterize this beautiful part of Tuscany. The mouthfeel is medium-weight but carefully balanced with just enough acidity to add brightness. It shows just enough backbone to guarantee staying power and longevity. That said, the tannins are carefully integrated into the delicate fiber of the wine. This is no doubt one of the most graceful Brunellos to emerge from the 2015 vintage. Some 74,500 bottles were released in January 2020.
James Suckling 98: Extremely perfumed and decadent with dried flowers and spices and fresh mushrooms. Cherries, too. Full body. Solid core of fruit, yet ever so fine tannins. Goes on for minutes. Such beautifully crafted tannins.
Wine Enthusiast 97: Enticing aromas of ripe wildberry, iris, camphor and sunbaked soil take shape in the glass. Full bodied and enveloping, the smooth, delicious palate doles out juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry jam, licorice and tobacco while firm velvety tannins provide support. It boasts concentration and structure but also balance, thanks to the fruit richness and freshness.
