2018 Scarpetta Prosecco DOC Brut, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy

“I decided to start us off this month with a light and refreshing Prosecco from Scarpetta.  The perfect pairing with light appetizers, this wine is equally enjoyable on its own.  Expect green apple and melon on the palate along with that unmistakable floral nose of a well-made Prosecco.”

2013 Valdez Family Winery ‘Botticelli Vineyard’ Zinfandel, Rockpile, Sonoma County, California

“My pick this month comes to you from the Valdez Family Winery. Valdez sources grapes for this wine from the famous Rockpile AVA within Sonoma and just next to Dry Creek Valley. With high elevation vineyards ranging from 800 to 1200 feet above sea level, the region is famous for its well-drained soils consisting of red and brown clay loam, gravel, and other large rock formations, which impart incredible mineral facets and extracted fruit qualities to the Zinfandel and Syrah that the region is most known for. The Valdez Winery has produced a delightful and affordable Zin that is ripe and densely packed, with wild berry and licorice aromas and zesty blackberry, toasty sage and black pepper flavors that finish with firm but balanced tannins.”

2014 Salvestrin ‘Cavaso’ Red Blend, Napa Valley, California

“Since 1933 the Salvestrin family have been growing and producing wine in Napa Valley. Known for their majestic Cabernet Sauvignons, this beautiful red blend is their ‘family wine’ and a red that they like to drink after a long day in the vineyards. The 2014 Cavaso is a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Petit Sirah & Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has an expressive aromatic range with dark chocolate, brown spice and deep dark berry fruit jumping out of the glass. On the palate, this has a seamless, silken texture with the plump dark berry fruit taking center stage on the medium to full-bodied frame. The long, driving finish features ripe fruit with an accent of mocha. This is a beautiful Napa Valley Red that seriously over-delivers for its modest price as the quality of fruit here is excellent. This drinks well already & will continue to give pleasure over the next 5-7 years. Polished enough to be very enjoyable on its own, this has enough depth and the flavor profile to accompany roasted duck perfectly.”

2017 The Giving Kitchen Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California

“Talk about wine with a good cause. The 2017 Giving Kitchen Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is everything I love in a Napa Cab. A blend of grapes from St. Helena and Oak Knoll District this wine has balanced structure with ripe red fruit, notes of baking spices, and complimentary tannins. If that’s not enough, every bottle sold is a donation to The Giving Kitchen, an Atlanta based non-profit benefitting restaurant industry workers during hard times. A wine I believe every one can agree on!”
